The Grammy Nominees was a series of various artists compilation albums, released from 1995-2020, celebrating the best of the music industry. Albums were released before the airing of the annual Grammy Awards. All of the songs on the albums were Grammy nominated in the year released.

After nominations have been determined and announced, Academy voting members vote in up to ten categories across up to three Fields in the genre Fields plus the four categories of the General Field to determine the winners.

The 91 categories throughout all genres of music are highly coveted, and this year is no exception. Despite that vast number of nominations, there are four major categories–the “Big Four.” These are Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year.

Album Eligibility

To be eligible for GRAMMY Award consideration, an album must contain greater than 75 percent playing time of newly recorded (within five years of the release date), previously unreleased recordings*. The current eligibility rule is 50 percent.

Five Finalists

In each category are nominated for a GRAMMY Award. In the General Field, however, the top eight finalists are the nominees, with the exception of Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical and Songwriter Of The Year, Non-Classical, both of which have five nominees.

The recording with the most votes in a category wins. Ties are possible in which case the two [or more] nominees who tie are considered winners. Winners receive a GRAMMY Award; All nominees receive a Nominee Medallion and Certificate.

Entries are submitted by record companies as well as members of the academy and are reviewed to determine eligibility and category placement. The voting members of NARAS, through a series of ballots, select five nominees for each award and ultimately the winner; the voters cast ballots only in their areas of expertise.
