”The new academic calendar for basic schools in Ghana, which is likely to be confirmed after the stakeholders’ meeting, brings back the old system that was changed due to COVID-19. The 39-week calendar has three terms, with the first term running from September 26, 2023, to December 21, 2023, the second term from January 9, 2024, to April 11, 2024, and the third term from May 7 to July 25, 2024.”
Accra, Ghana. The Ministry of Education has proposed a new academic calendar for basic schools in Ghana. The calendar, which is likely to be confirmed after the stakeholders’ meeting, brings back the old system that was changed due to COVID-19.
The old system had three terms, with the first term running from September to December, the second term from January to April, and the third term from May to July. The new system also has three terms, but the first term is slightly longer, running from September to December.
The proposed calendar is a welcome change for many parents and teachers, who were unhappy with the shorter terms that were introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The longer terms will give students more time to learn and will help to reduce the stress of the school year.
The stakeholders’ meeting is scheduled to be held in early September. The ministry is hopeful that the new calendar will be confirmed at the meeting.
